Defense of Three Higher Diploma Theses in Family Medicine at the University of Babylon
The Department of Family and Community Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Babylon, held the defense of three higher diploma theses in family medicine. The sessions were attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Mohanad Abbass Al-Shalah, the Scientific Assistant Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Ali, the Administrative Assistant Dean, Prof. Dr. Kazem Jawad Al-Hamadani, the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Ameer Kazem Hussein, physicians from Babylon Health Directorate, along with several faculty members and postgraduate students.
The first thesis was presented by student Safaa Abbas Fadhil Al-Moussawi, entitled:
“Prevalence of Metabolic Dysfunction–Associated Fatty Liver Disease among Patients Attending Merjan Medical City in Babylon Province,”
supervised by Prof. Dr. Qais Ismail Ajjam. During her defense, the researcher explained that metabolic dysfunction–associated fatty liver disease is one of the most common chronic liver diseases worldwide and is strongly associated with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
The second thesis was presented by student Rusul Mohammed Matlub, entitled:
“Prevalence of Obesity, Overweight, and Their Associated Factors among Intermediate School Students in Al-Kifl District, Babylon Province,”
supervised by Prof. Dr. Hassan Alwan Biaay. The researcher clarified that the study aimed to determine the prevalence of obesity and overweight among intermediate school students in the region, and to evaluate the relationship between various demographic, behavioral, psychological, and lifestyle factors with obesity and overweight rates.
The third thesis was presented by student Sahar Salem Ubaid Khalif, entitled:
“Frequency of Diabetes Mellitus among End-Stage Renal Disease Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis in Babylon Province,”
supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nihad Abdullah Salman Al-Jubouri. During her defense, the researcher emphasized that diabetes mellitus is one of the main causes of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and that hemodialysis patients represent a group highly vulnerable to serious health complications.
